I came back from Vienna on 1 July 2008. Thought of extending my holidays for few more days but I was already too tired (my money is tired actually hahaha). The weather was so fine in Vienna..very very fine...too damn hot actually... I think I got sunburnt now... galap btl kulit ku skrg...uwaaaaaa......my sunblock cream didn't help me much... thought of wearing long sleeve shirt but it was too hot...sweating profusely. I was really tempted to take an umbrella on the sunny and hot days but I didn't as people here would only use umbrella on raining days hahahaha....
I visited the Fanzone Wien on 26 June 08, the place where all fans could watch Euro 08 matches transmitted on giant screens. I thought I might not be able to go there during the final match so I went to the place earlier. It was free entrance but the security checking was too tight, no water bottles were allowed...as if you would board on plane. Food and beverages were sold everywhere in the Fanzone area. Beverages including mineral water were poured into a cup because they didn't want you to carry bottles. Then the cup charged (deposit) for Euro1, it would be returned to you if you returned the cup. I bought few bottles of mineral water but only the last cup I didn't return because the cup was so special hehehe... I managed to visit the Ernst Happel Stadion too, where the final match was held. Unfortunately I managed to take photos from outside (courtesy of passers by hahaha). The problem when traveling alone was difficult to take photos of your own. So my strategy was to approach any 'good' passers by to help me taking photos muahahaha...otherwise I would be taking pictures of buildings and sceneries without me in the pictures hehehe...
During the final match there were a lot of people at the Fanzone...even at the surrounding area of Stephanplatz and Rathaus. There were people selling match ticket (black market) and I tried to inquire (manatau murah kunun hahaha) but one ticket was sold at Euro500!!!! It was almost 10times more than the cost of my airfare which was only Euro60 return!!! hahahahaha...... I visited the official merchandise store, most shirts were discounted at 50% but I didn't buy at all hehehe...
I love Vienna.... I hope to visit Vienna again soon!!! The city is very clean, the buildings are all nice - very historical. I hope to visit Salzburg too in the future, the check the Mozart's birthplace and also a place of the sound of music was shot hehe... I want to visit Museums too as it helps with my studies.... historical buildings, museums, monuments, parks etc are all related to my studies ...hehehehe....
I managed to visit Prague (Czech Republic), Bratislava (Slovakia) and Budapest (Hungary). I really love Prague....the buildings were amazing!! I felt like I was living in the 13th centuries, wearing the traditional costume..felt like you were watching warriors with their shields...nah kauuuuuu....hahaha. I don't mind coming back to Prague again and stay there longer... I couldn't get enough of those historical buildings as I do really really love historical buildings!! :D
Bratislava is only 1 hour journey by train from Vienna. Well it's a nice place, divided by two parts; old town and new town which is separated by danube (river). The old town reminds me of Melaka but Bratislava old town is well preserved unlike in Melaka, most buildings are dilapidated and abandoned. How I wish Melaka is preserved and being preserved then we can be proud of buildings from centuries ago. Since it was in conjunction with Euro 08, there were a lot of tourists in Bratislava at that time. I was all alone, so I joined the group of walking tours; 1 couple from the States and one old couple from Australia. Apa bulih buat, terpksa ikut old couples hahahaha....but I did enjoy myself in Bratislava.
I visited Budapest...but it was only a short trip. I may visit Budapest again. It was really difficult to travel alone in Budapest I guess. The people do not speak English. This was my first time traveling which I found so difficult. I was wandering around at the bus station, going forth and back for few times, didn't have any idea what to do!! hahahaha.... Another thing, shops or any retailers do not accept euro money, they just want Forint (Hungarian currency). I had with me only Euro so I have to withdrew some in Forint which I didn't have any idea what the exchange rate was. I just 'belasah' withdrew HUF25000 Forint, and later asked my friend to check the exchange rate. It was CHF167...hahahaha...pokaiiiiiiii.... Budapest is expensive too I guess. The 2-day Budapest card (the pass) was HUF6500 which was about CHF45?? Damn!! It was raining in Budapest. I went for a day trip, thought of staying longer but it was not really good so I went back to Vienna earlier. Too bad, in Budapest I didn't manage to find 'good' passers by hehehe to help me taking my pictures. I was hesitant to look around, searching for people - I was just too scared...so I took a not so good photo of mine, apa lagi ambil gmbr sendiri la hahaha...the rest were all buildings :p My friend suggested that I should bring with me a tripod hahaha....well before you manage to take a snap, maybe your camera will already be taken away!!! hahaha...
My next trip might be to Spain and Portugal...and I do really want to visit Poland and further north (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia). Other places will be covered too, hopefully (tamak oh kan...hahahaha)
Well...on top of all the excitement and euphoria visiting places, I lost my retainer (orthodontics) uwaaaaaa.......the retainer has to be removed every time I eat. I think I might have lost it in Orio Al Serio airport in Bergamo and I ate my lunch before departure. I thought I already put it inside my bag, or maybe I have accidentally thrown it away..... I checked with Orthodontics clinic in Lugano as soon as I arrived for the cost of making a new retainer... I was informed it would CHF400 ...uwaaaaa...in that case I have to withdraw my own money....I asked my friend the cost to do it in Como as she has done her braces there, and it would be Euro300 ...so it will be about the same price if I do it in Lugano.... and my appointment will be on 8 July 2008. It was RM1000 in Malaysia..so it is about the same.... apa nak buat...it happened!!!! :(
Ok...photos of my trips will be more on Facebook.... I will upload photos in my blog soon too..but maybe will be a few only... I have taken about 600 photos!!!! muahahahaha....and I regretted I didn't bring my videocam to capture the moment especially the celebration after the winning of Spain for the Euro 08. I couldn't find my charger for the videocam so I went to Vienna without it :( I captured some 5 minutes video using my normal camera...and I will see if I can upload that...
